About
A contemporary dancer Ema Yuasa will be invited to do a residency for dance workshop and a talk at Yamakiwa Gallery. This workshop is developed from the everyday body gestures of local residents whose life is based around a traditional farming, to find the possibility of communication through bodily language between people with different backgrounds.
Our way of using body or behaviour is deeply connected to our living, and to the system for evaluation such as manner or class system. We would like to bring opportunities to question such norms set for judging what is right or beautiful, which is taken for granted in everyday life. We believe this will help us gaining an open attitude to other people who have different ways of living or sets of values.
The workshop is very simple, fun and creative, and open for everyone without any experience in dance.
In the talk, Yuasa will look back at the residency and workshop, referring to her rich experience of bodily expression at various sites in the world.

Yuasa also has many experiences in collaborating with artists to create site-specific works, such as performance piece in installations. In this project, she will also work with artist duo Hanqing & Mona, who do residency at Yamakiwa Gallery in June, to create a collaborative piece in the gallery space.
